Mission
The NCSC provides quality technical
assistance, training, research and cutting-edge technologies that further the
integrity and efficiency of justice systems and the broader government. Governed by a board representing the U.S. state courts and the private sector, and associated with a
network of key U.S. and international justice-sector professional organizations,
the NCSC creatively applies the historic experiences from the
U.S. and from justice systems worldwide to build sustainable institutions
of justice around the globe, even in the most challenging environments.
Democratic reform and sustainable
development are compromised where the rule of law is weak. Without a predictable legal system, the
economy cannot thrive, civil society cannot flourish and individual rights go
unprotected. With our partners, we work to improve
justice-sector performance so that:
v
Conflicts
are resolved in compliance with the law
v
Public
order and safety are maintained
v
Basic
legal information and services are available to
all
v
Laws are made with public understanding of their meaning and impact
v
Individuals' rights are safeguarded against abuse of power
v
Citizens hold
government accountable for its actions
